Nathalie Ballan
Founder of Sair da Casca, Senior Partner
Nathalie began planning Sair da Casca in 1993, shortly after moving to Portugal. Sair da Casca was born out of the conviction that companies are the engine of sustainable development and that by strengthening its links with society it is possible to maximize their positive impacts. The concept of Sair da Casca was the result of early years of professional experience, dedicated to investigative journalism, many collaborations with NGOs related to extreme poverty and participations in the creation of the first companies related to information and citizenship. In Portugal, following the entrepreneurial vein, Nathalie participated in the ephemeral company Gandaia (linking art and the reuse of “abandoned” furniture) and in Finance for Social Impact (FSI), founded with Sair da Casca.
Nathalie is responsible for the development and internationalization of Sair da Casca business. She follows inclusive business, social impact assessment, and the role of education for economic and social growth themes. She is part of the European Union Experts Group on Sustainability – Networking for better Corporate Social Responsibility advice to Small and Medium Sized Enterprises. She is a Fellow at Rothschild Foundation for Social Entrepreneurship, accompanies various social entrepreneurs through mentoring; is an active member of GRACE in Portugal and the Action Tank movement (France). She is also Secretary-General of the Economic Council of France in Portugal.
